“The never ending question for makeup: ‘What colors are best on my eyes?’” says Sam Christensen, owner and makeup artist of Girly Junk. “I am a firm believer in one thing; your makeup must reflect your personality. Yes are there colors that compliment eye color better than others, absolutely, but remember these are guidelines to be taken into account and your own personal flavor and style attached too, that will give you the ultimate look filled with confidence that you look your absolute best.”

Consider the following expert tips to help you decide what makeup colors may be best for different colored eyes, from brown to blue, green, hazel, and everything in between.

The brown-eyed girl is often fun-loving and her style should reflect that. Consider these tips from the pros for what eye shadow and eyeliner colors look best with brown eyes.

“Brown eyes - Lucky you!” says Celebrity Makeup Artist Leora Edut. “You can wear any color shadow.  Pastel pink and plum shadows are the latest trend for Spring 2010. Try a lighter shade of pink and Neutrogena Nourishing Eye Quad in Moonlit Violet if you have fair skin, and if your skin is medium or dark, try Dior 5-Colour Iridescent Eyeshadow in Parisian Lights.”

“For brown eyes, navy, like a well cut navy suit, looks first class on everyone but makes brown eyes even more deep and soulful,” says Sam Christensen.

When it comes to choosing the best color of eyeliner for your eye color, consider a pop of color with purple or green eyeliner for brown eyes, suggests Christopher Drummond. He also recommends a gold eye shadow for any eye color.

“For blue eyes, some of my favorite and versatile shades are the golds and coppers,” says Sam Christensen. “They can be worn alone or used to blend any other shades in your palettes. Try pink, too, a great youthful fresh look for blue eyes.”

Blue eyes work great with darker eyeliner to balance out the color. Christopher Drummond, celebrity makeup artist, suggests black or brown eyeliner for blue-eyed beauties.

Best Makeup Colors for Green Eyes

“Purple, green, and blue look absolutely gorgeous on green eyes,” says Edut. “You can soften these colors by blending out slightly with an orangey brown. I love MAC brownish gold Blanc Type Shadow with a vibrant splash of Sense of Style green liner underneath the eye!”

“For green eyes, plums not only make the whites of your eyes look even brighter on all shades but will make other ladies green Find out what eye shadow and eyeliner colors work best with different colored eyes. Dark eyeliner works well for green eyes as well. Christopher Drummond recommends brown or black eyeliner for green-eyed girls.

Best Makeup Colors for Hazel Eyes
Hazel eyes are typically a greenish or yellowish brown color. To choose the best eye makeup colors for hazel colored eyes, think about the impact you want to make. Decide if you want to be dramatic or relaxed with your eye makeup. Consider these tips for great makeup colors for hazel colored eyes.

“For hazel eyes, depending on whether you would like to accent your gold or green side more, mauve is a great choice for both,” says Sam Christensen. “Bring out your green side with a green shadow, a bit more bold but go for it!”

“Hazel eyes…This unique color picks up anything with a gold reflection in it,” adds Leora Edut. “Try Black Radiance Starry Eyeshadow Stick in Rich Gold.”

“I always get asked about what eye colors are good for what color eyes,” says Celebrity Makeup Artist Christopher Drummond of Christopher Drummond Beauty. “To be honest, it is a very relative question.  There are no real ‘rules’ for eye shadow; it all has to do with what the wearer is comfortable with [wearing].

“However, there is one color that works on everyone that brings out the color of any eye:  Gold,” he shares. “This is a color that no matter what color your eye is, it will help to enhance your eye color. A beautiful gold shadow coupled with a dark eyeliner and mascara is guaranteed to pop your eye color whether you are green, hazel, blue, or brown. It is a no fail color that works every time.”
