Nail Polish Colors and Trends Previewing for Spring 2012 (NY Fashion Week)

New York Fashion WeekFall is a fabulous time for new fashions, hot new nail polish colors, and new beauty treatments. Whether you’re in the mood for a salon-style manicure or pedicure boasting the new fall nail polish trends or if you prefer to do your own nails at home using the hottest nail polish colors for fall, or a cutting-edge color for spring, now is the perfect time to update your look. Consider these tips and trends on hot nail polish colors you can enjoy as a sneak peek in fall 2011 – the New York Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2012 nail color preview!

Backstage at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2012, the Dashing Diva hot nail polish colors and trends previewing for the coming spring season included a series of natural, buff nail polish colors and timeless, sexy reds. This is a good reminder that just about any time you can be safe with a red or nude mani or pedi. The colors and finishes are changing every season, of course. Dashing Diva’s Chelsea in the Buff and Season Tickets polish led the way for nude tones while The Red Carpet polish rounded out the bold and vibrant red scene.

OPI at New York Fashion Week included more of the same – subtle, neutral shades and a pop of red for an effective accent color for your nails. OPI’s MonSooner or Later (OPI Classics) is characterized by a bright orangey-red hue that works well at accessorizing an outfit. The pedicure choice for models at the fashion show was Samoan Sand (OPI Classics), which is a soft pink-toned nude. Other colors on display at New York Fashion Week – Spring/Summer 2012 include manicures of Stranger Tides (Pirates of the Caribbean) in a gray-green pastel shade and pedicures in a nude shade, Tickle My France-y (OPI Classics).

“The most important thing to remember about nails is to have fun with it. Make mistakes, test out new colors, and see what you think works best for you,” says Aija Vilemsonne, Creative Director of Pretty Woman USA.

Vilemsonne notes that some of the other hot nail polish colors include shades of blue and especially denim, metallic nail polish colors, and nude nail colors seem to be the way to go. Stay tuned for more details on fall 2011 nail polish colors and trends, as well as hot nail hues for the New Year.

No matter if you plan to hit the beach or just spend the weekdays working and the weekends relaxing, check out these hottest shades for summer and beyond to give you a fun and flirty look this summer! Here is our preview for summer 2011 hot nail polish colors.

Summer 2011 Nail Polish Trend #1: Bright Candy Colors
Coral, pink, orange, blue, green, and other bright and cheery candy colors continue to be a huge hit for summer 2011 nails. Orange tones especially are holding their place as one of the hot nail colors for summer 2011 (not to mention last year’s craze). Summer manicure and pedicures look fantastic with a single shade or a nice combination of colors like a bright and contemporary French manicure or a solid mani with an elegant stripe here or there.

Combinations of these bright candy color nail polish shades can sort of look tropical, especially with blue and orange or pink and green. You can also enjoy trying different colors across different weeks, changing up your nail polish as often as you are comfortable redoing your nails.

I received a handful of bright nail polish colors to try for our summer 2011 guide to nail polish. JULEP, a classy nail polish brand with lovely, skinny bottles and vibrant colors, offers three gorgeous shades for spring and summer nails. JULEP’s hot nail colors for 2011 include Natalie (a bright pinkish coral shade), Gloria (an orangey coral color), and Amy (a medium blue tone). I really enjoyed the entire experience with these colors and this brand. The bottles are very skinny but the nail polish brush is still efficient and easy to use. I enjoyed using the Natalie color for my manicure and the Gloria color for my pedicure.

Some of the other hottest nail lacquer colors for summer 2011 include ORLY’s Pinup Collection, which features Va Va Voom (Pink Neon Crème), Here Comes Trouble (Sparkle Green), Coquette Cutie (Coral Crème), and Bubbly Bombshell (Purple Glitter). I received the latter three for testing purposes and must admit the two glitter colors are my favorites out of the three ORLY shades I received. The purple and green glitter polishes have a unique blend of tiny sparkles and bigger pieces of glitter, offering a more dimensional look. The glitter nail colors work especially well as a topcoat, adding a special sparkle to any manicure or pedicure.

Summer 2011 Nail Polish Trend #2: Color-Changing Mood Nail Polish
The trends for summer 2011 hot nail polish colors get even more fun and feisty with nail polish that actually changes color when you wear it! In the Mood nail polish is a “mood nail polish” that works much like a mood ring, changing colors when your body temperature changes. Unlike a mood ring though, these colors only take on two shades apiece.

I received three shades of In the Mood nail polish to try out for this summer nail color review. Naughty is a beautiful sparkly orange nail polish color that changes to yellow on warm fingers or sometimes in the sunlight. I’m not a big fan of yellow nail polish by itself, so while I adore the orange, I’m not totally crazy about wearing this when my hands are warm and the shade turns to yellow. The bluish purple shade, Guilty, turns a sweet shade of lighter blue when it gets warmed up. The pink shade, Ditsy, switches back and forth between a darker pink and a lighter pink. The textures are more of a matte finish with a smooth and lovely texture. I really enjoy the concept of mood nail polish since I am a child of the 80s and I’ve had my fair share of mood rings and color-changing jewelry. I recommend these or other fun mood nail polish products for a fun and different take on your traditional manicures and pedicures!

Summer Nails 2011 – Trends #3 and #4

La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads Review

La Fresh nail polish remover padsOne of the least pleasant parts of at-home manicures and pedicures for me has always been the nail polish remover. It stinks, stings in cuts, and if you get too much on your skin, you can sometimes taste it. Nail polish remover certainly isn’t great for you in general, so many companies have been producing acetone-free nail polish remover products. La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads are one such product that makes the nail polish removing process so much more pleasant.

I received a few samples of La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads for the purpose of this review. I wasn’t sure what to expect, since all my life I have used standard bottles of nail polish remover. After testing out these fragrant nail products, I am happy to report that nail polish remover pads may just be the future of nail polish removal!

La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads come in small, single-use packets that are perfect for changing your manicure or pedicure on the go, especially on vacation. One of my favorite things about these nail polish removal pads is their lovely citrus smell. The fragrance is called “fresh Tuscan orange” and it is as good as it sounds. The scent is nothing like what you would expect from a nail polish remover product, which is so welcome. The citrusy orange smell is refreshing and invigorating, making the manicure change even better.

My other favorite feature of La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads is that they effectively remove the nail polish from all 10 nails with just one pad. The pads are also 100% biodegradable, living up to their “eco-beauty” name.

The packaging advises that there’s no need to rinse your hands or nails after using this product. I still do, but it is mostly out of habit. Despite their all-natural composition, this product is still flammable, so use with caution and do not use when smoking or around open flame. Some of the ingredients in La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads include: Propylene Carbonate, Ethyl Alcohol, Glycerin, Aloe Vera, Rosemary Leaf Extract, and Vitamin E, among others.

La Fresh Eco-Beauty Acetone-Free Nail Polish Remover Pads are cruelty free. You can buy sets of six or multiple sets of six, as well as a gift set of La Fresh nail polish remover wipes. You can find them on Amazon for $3.99 or $10, depending on quantity.

Crackle Nail Polish Colors and Trends

A woman’s look is not complete without nail polish – especially crackle nail polish or shatter nail polish these days. Nail polish speaks a lot about a person. It can actually change how one expresses her personality a great deal. A wide variety of nail polish colors are available so everyone can pick what suits them best. Since nail polish colors reflect so much on you, it is fun to choose a color that best suits your mood. (Did you know there are even “mood nail polishes” on the market?!)

If you want to add drama and mystery to your appearance, choose dark shades. To give your nails that shiny look, go for metallic nail polish. To portray a gentle and feminine personality, use lighter shades. To stand out in a crowd, use trendy polish. This will show that you are interested in fashion. Look out for nail polish colors that celebrities are wearing since they are trendsetters but remember to look for hot new nail colors depending on the season.

There are several websites that offer all shades of nail colors, for example Amazon.com, which has a wide selection of both crackle nail polish and shatter nail polish varieties. The occasion that you will be attending should also help determine the nail polish colors that you pick. For example, for a night out with other girls or even a dinner date with someone you hold dear, you should pick brightly colored nail polish. It is a chance to be daring. For a sophisticated night out to the ballet or opera, you can go for darker, intense nail polish colors. For an interview, it is advisable to pick pale to neutral nail polish colors. This is a time that you do not want to draw unnecessary attention to yourself. Such colors also give you a more professional look and this is what your interviewers will notice.

Different colors have different meanings, so it is important that you pick nail polish colors with this in mind. A color like green, which comes is several shades, says that you are an exciting person. Colors like chrome, graphite, gold, and bronze will normally leave eyes fixed on you. These colors are a perfect choice that can be worn with almost anything.

Since there are different colors of crackle nail polish and shatter nail polish to suit all skin tones, you should focus more on your mood. Some of the suitable crackle polish and shatter polish colors for today’s woman are Mia secret nail polish purple and China glaze nail polish fault line, a very cool graffiti style polish, which come both in crackle and shatter, have recorded very good sales. These are clear and soft colors that work on your nails like a whisper.

Other crackle nail polishes that can look extremely stunning on you are the Mia Secret Crackle Nail Polish Orange, which is very strong and durable. It is meant for women who are more daring. Still others are OPI Pirates of the Caribbean Nail Polish, which includes a Silver Shatter. OPI Simply Smash-Ing is another fun shatter polish in a gold-green this time, inspired by tennis star Serena. With these popular colors, you will always stand out in a crowd.

Perhaps the hottest of the season, another color that will give you a stunning look is OPI E53 Black Shatter. With black nail polish, you should take care of even the slightest details. This is because even the smallest mistake with black nail polish will draw a lot of attention.

Crackle nail polish is relatively inexpensive and it’s a great way to give your nails a special makeover with the changing seasons. You can apply the crackle or shatter topcoat on virtually any nail polish base color, so get creative!

Nail Art Designs for Any Occasion

When you wear nail art designs on your fingernails or toenails, it’s not always because you want to flaunt your glamorous and trendy style. This may be a part of the reason. But more than this, women have ways of rewarding themselves for a job well done at work or a whole week satisfying the needs of their husbands and kids. Putting some art on the fingernails is a simple pleasure and a relaxing experience for women. You’ll spend more of your spare time with your nails as you get to know various nail art designs achievable even by your own hands.

3D Nail Art Designs
One trend making a buzz in the nail art scene is a variety of 3D nail art designs. These nail accessories have a raised appearance and texture on your nails, adding more fun and elegance to your hands. Swarovski, rhinestones, sequins, 3D stickers, and dried flowers are some 3D nail accessories.

You can complement your long black gown by putting on glistening Swarovski crystals or rhinestones. You can highlight a funky appearance by applying 3D stickers of flowers and hearts, or build up a feminine side of you by putting on dried flowers for your nail art designs.

Fimo Nail Art Designs
Fimo canes are made of polymer clay in the forms of logs with a design on their core. When sliced into thin sheets, fimo slices makes charming and lovely nail accessories.

Fimo nail accessories can be purchased either as fimo canes or as fimo slices ready to apply on the nails. Fimo nail art designs mostly come in fruits, flowers, animals, or even pastries, and in attractive pastel or vivid colors.

Acrylic Nail Art Designs
If you’re looking for a more subtle look, you can resort to acrylic nail art designs. You may be the type who doesn’t want to overdo fashion. Given you already wear the best dress in your closet, a simple acrylic nail art design can blend well into your overall look.

You can experiment with acrylic nail paint. Put on some dots using a dotting tool or a toothpick, or achieve color swirls using a liner brush. You can do a lot of nail art designs simply by using your creativity. When you get more experienced, you can work with acrylic nail powder and liquid to create your own fake nails and nail extensions. You can also mix a style of acrylic nail art with the previous designs mentioned if your mood shifts to a more extravagant look.

Freehand Nail Art Designs
If you want every aspect of your appearance to be a creative expression of yourself, try the freehand nail art designs. No matter what mood you are in or how you want the world to perceive you at a given moment, you can show it through your fingernails.

A fine brush, nail paint, and a base color of nail polish will do in applying freehand designs, but you can be more creative with your nails with the aid of nail art kits. A kit normally has a striping brush, mini-liner brush, liner brush, and nail art brush. Some kits even include nail art pens, a dotting tool, and a nail art tray.

A good choice of base color won’t overpower your hand-painted nail art designs. Mix your freehand nail design with the rest of the nail art accessories to expand your creativity. You can also add a little texture by putting on some glitter, crushed seashells for nail art, or colored sand.

Whatever you want to do with your nails, keep in mind that this is a rewarding experience for you to conclude and start another busy week. As you practice your nail art designs from one month to the next, you should also notice your nail art skills improving.

How to Do Your Own Nail Polish Designs Using Toothpicks

Not everyone can afford a trip to the nail salon every week, and even if you can, there’s just something to be said for using your own creativity to come up with nail polish designs on your own at home. It’s even better if you can use everyday materials to make your own nail art. My most favorite nail polish design I ever created was a miniature Philadelphia Flyers logo that I painted only on my pinky nail using a toothpick! I wish I had thought to take a photo – this is going back at least seven or eight years – but at least I can still explain how you can make your own easy nail polish designs at home.

Gather up your favorite nail art supplies, nail polish colors, and a few toothpicks. Don’t forget paper towels, cotton balls, and nail polish remover. Now we’re ready to get started!

Easy Nail Polish Designs Using a Toothpick
When you don’t have nail art brushes on hand, you can still create beautiful and fun nail polish designs using toothpicks. This is quite an economical way to get your own pretty nail polish designs at home! Here are some tips on how to use a toothpick to create easy nail polish designs:

•    Treat the toothpick like a little nail art brush. Use it to pick up nail polish on the tip and drag it around to create fun designs.

•    Use the tip of the toothpick as a nail dotting tool. Just a little dab of nail polish should help you to create a variety of sizes of polka dots or spots on your nails.

•    Use the side of the toothpick to make straight line or plaid nail art. To create straight lines, you can use the length of the toothpick and press it across the surface of your nail. This may get messy, but it can help if your hands aren’t that steady when you try to paint a straight line freehand. An even easier technique is to use a small piece of string to create striped or plaid appearance on your nails.

•    Switch to a new toothpick for each new color. This prevents your nail polish designs from blending together.

•    Take your time! Practice does make toothpick nail art easier over time. If you mess up too badly, just remove the nail polish on that particular nail and start over!

Ideas for Black Nail Polish Designs
Black nail polish designs can be anything from goth to classy. It all depends on the theme of your nail art and how you wear it! Here are a few suggestions and ideas for black nail polish designs you can create at home.

•    Black dog nail art
•    Black Shatter nail art and manicures
•    Classy initials or abstract nail designs
•    Graduation Cap nail art designs
•    Halloween nail designs (black cat, bat, witch’s hat)
•    Silhouette nail designs
•    Simple black manicure

Ideas for White Nail Polish Designs
White nail polish designs can be just as much fun as black ones! Here are a few suggestions for white nail art to try at home:

•    Bunny nail art
•    Daisy nail designs
•    Diamond nail designs
•    Pastel nails with white “M” like M&Ms candies
•    Snowflake or snowman nail art
•    White silhouette nails
•    Simple white manicure

Black and White Nail Polish Designs
If you want the best of both worlds, here are some suggestions for black and white nail polish designs:

•    Black and white plaid nail designs
•    Yin-Yang nail art designs
•    Newspaper nail art designs
•    Border collie or Dalmatian nail designs
•    Panda nail designs
•    Penguin nail designs
•    Tuxedo nail designs
•    Zebra stripe nails

Nail Polish Designs for Kids
Even little girls love a pretty manicure or pedicure as they are growing up. Usually the best technique when doing nail polish designs for kids is to find a way to get your child to sit still, put on a favorite movie or cartoon, and then get to work. Find some kids’ nail polish and consider these tips on nail polish designs for kids!

•    Find kids’ nail polish! Since little girls’ nails are still so tiny, you should find nail polish with a small brush for best results. There are a number of kids’ nail polish products out there. Even Nicole by OPI has a smaller brush that applies the nail polish smoothly and evenly, even on small nails.

•    Look for nontoxic formulas for your child. The best thing to do is find a nail polish that has as few chemicals as possible, especially for your growing daughter. Look around for nail polish products without toluene, formaldehyde, parabens, and the like.

•    Start with something simple. Paint all the nails a different bright color. Paint a smiley face or a small flower on one nail. If your child wants a more elaborate manicure and you are up for it, try something like watermelon nails using the French manicure technique – bright pink base color, bright green tips, and use the toothpick to add black speckles for the seeds! These are perfect summer nail designs for any age.

These are just a few tips to get you started with easy nail polish designs at home, and especially in painting nail art using a toothpick. If you have other suggestions for easy nail art, black nail art, white nail designs, or nail painting for kids, please leave us a comment so all our readers can benefit.

Benefits of Nail Hardener Products

Nail Hardener ProductsNail hardener is used to harden nails and treat chipping. Chipped or flaking nails can be frustrating to deal with, as well as unattractive. If you wear nail polish directly on top of chipped or flaky nails, you might even exacerbate the problem and cause more damage to your natural nails. If you want to protect and heal your nails, you might need to find the best nail hardener for your particular nail condition.

A wide variety of nail hardeners are available on the market to help you treat nail softness and issues with your fingernails and toenails. The best nail hardeners will probably have quite a following of reviewers and fans. You can find popular nail hardening products like Quimica Alemana Nail HardenerDaby Nail Hardener, and OPI Nail Hardener at your favorite beauty stores as well as online at Amazon.com.

Tropical Flower Nail Art Designs

Try this easy at-home tropical flower nail art for your manicure or pedicure.Painting tropical flower nail art designs on your manicure or pedicure may be easier than you think. While getting my own manicure and pedicure done before vacation, I paid close attention to the flower nail art that the nail technician painted on my ring finger. I observed the technique and committed it to memory until I could try it for myself. To my surprise and delight, painting my own tropical flower nail designs was easier than I expected, and the designs came out great on the first try!

Many kinds of beautiful, brightly colored tropical flowers will look great on your nails. Consider bird of paradise nails, hibiscus nails, and bromeliad nail designs. You can also make abstract tropical flower nail art rather than focusing on a particular type of tropical flower.

–    Striper, very thin nail art brush, or toothpick
–    Clear topcoat
–    Nail art rhinestones, pearls, or other accents

Try this easy at-home tropical hibiscus flower nail art for your manicure or pedicure.1.    Paint the desired background color on your nails. Remember to use contrast, so if you want a dark or bold hibiscus flower, paint a light background and vice versa.
2.    Choose two colors for your hibiscus nail art.
3.    Once nails are dry, use the nail polish brush to drip a few drops of the first color onto the newspaper or paper towel surface. Do the same for the second color.
4.    Dip one corner of the nail art brush in the first color. Turn the brush over and dip the other corner in the second color. Your nail art brush should have two colors neatly on the bristles.
5.    Starting from one edge of the nail, paint a small squiggle as the first petal.
6.    Repeat two or three more times to form the rest of the hibiscus flower.
7.    Use the striper, thin brush, or toothpick to paint the center of the flower. It should be a thin line coming from the middle of the flower you just painted.
8.    Using the tip of a toothpick or striper and a different color of nail polish like yellow or white, paint tiny dots at the end of the line.
9.    Once the nails are dry, preserve the tropical flower designs with a clear topcoat.

DIY Bird of Paradise Nail Art Designs

1.    Paint the desired background color on your nails. A light color will probably look best.
2.    Paint a green stem diagonally from the tip of the nail using a toothpick or very thin striper nail art brush.
3.    Using red or dark pink, paint a mostly horizontal pointed line for part of the tropical flower.
4.    Using orange nail polish, paint an upward pointed petal, followed by two or three more.
5.    Using a very thin implement, paint a few blue accents, including one upward and one outward feather-type petal and also a tiny bit of edging along the stem of the bird of paradise flower.
6.    Once the bird of paradise flower nail design is dry, apply a clear topcoat to seal and protect your designs.

DIY Bromeliad Nail Art Designs
Bromeliad nail designs can be relatively easy to paint. To create your own tropical bromeliad nail art designs on your fingernails or toenails, follow these steps:

1.    Paint your desired background color. A light colored nail polish will probably work best.
2.    Using red or dark pink nail polish and a nail art pen or toothpick, paint several different petals going outward and upward – resembling the top of a pineapple.
3.    Using green nail polish, paint the stem and a few outward leaves in the same manner as above.
4.    Seal the designs with a clear topcoat once dry.

These are just three different types of tropical flower nail designs you can paint at home. To create dozens of other designs, vary the color choices and add tiny nail accessories like pearls, rhinestones, and glitter topcoats for added effect.
