Hawaii as a 2009 Honeymoon Destination
Hawaii still comes in as a popular honeymoon destination for 2009, with a bride and groom visiting both Oahu and Maui this coming September. Another 2009 bride and groom would like to visit Hawaii for their honeymoon but they are reconsidering due to costs. They’re hoping to find another beach to visit for a lower expense.

May 24 bride Michaela Baltasar and her soon-to-be husband are heading to Kauai for their honeymoon.

“Our honeymoon budget isn’t huge — we’re not staying at any fancy resorts in Kauai or anything like that,” Baltasar says. “Instead, I used Hotwire to book two nights on the south end of the island — we scored a room at the Sheraton Kauai Resort for $127 a night. And then we went through Vacation Rentals By Owner (VRBO) to book a little studio cottage with a kitchen on the north end of the island (Haena — gorgeous) for the remaining five nights at $135 per night, plus a $150 refundable security deposit.”

Kimberly B. Hamelburg celebrates her wedding in Boston, MA on June 6, 2009. She and her groom plan to travel to Hawaii to visit Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island for 13 nights. They’ve planned their honeymoon budget at $11K and used a travel agent to book their flights and hotels in early April.

Mexico Offers Many 2009 Honeymoon Destinations
Prior to the Swine Flu epidemic, Mexico came in as an extremely popular honeymoon destination for 2009. Now after news of the spreading disease hit the newsstands, Mexico clings to its spot in the top 10 honeymoon destinations for 2009, but it seems a number couples are changing their minds and canceling their Mexican honeymoons for fear of contracting Swine Flu. Meanwhile, other couples are braving the storm and willing to take their chances for the experience of a lifetime.

A May 2009 bride and her fiancé are planning on a Cancun honeymoon, but may opt for a tropical cruise instead due to the recent breakout of Swine Flu. Several brides and grooms are still considering Cancun despite the recent health concerns, although a number of them won’t visit until later in the fall.

Enjoy a romantic honeymoon in 2009 at any fabulous destination.Laura Arloszynski celebrates her wedding on May 23rd with the honeymoon immediately
following. She and her new husband will be visiting Cabo San Lucas for their 2009 honeymoon.

“We chose Cabo for a few reasons,” Arloszynski says. “1. We had both never been there, 2. We have never been to that side of Mexico, 3. I have stayed at the same chain of resports in a different location and thought it was awesome, 4. We have heard that it is a beautiful and up and coming destination in Mexico, 5. We didn’t want to go to Europe because we wanted to relax on the beach!”

“For the two of us for the week at the Dreams Los Cabos Suites Golf Resort & Spa (a 4 or 5 star hotel, depending on the site) it is ending up around $4,000 with travel insurance,” she adds. “So, not a budget breaker, but not something that is saving anyone money! And honestly, what we did was book about nine months in advance, and we committed to a higher price and since the trip ended up dropping in price, they just didn’t charge us the difference when we went to pay it off this month. I suggest booking early if you know that you can get the price adjustment if it drops in price.”

Other popular Mexican vacation destinations include Excellence Playa Mujeres and Playa Del Carmen, Mexico, where Meghann Klein and her fiancé plan to visit for their 2009 honeymoon.

“We are staying for a full week, and our budget was between $3000 – $4500,” says Klein. “We’re pretty much all booked, save for any extra activities we want to do while down there.”

Caribbean / Atlantic Ocean Honeymoon Destinations in 2009
Caribbean honeymoon destinations continue to be popular for 2009 as well. For many couples, the Caribbean is a reasonable distance from home and an easy flight for inexperienced fliers. Many beautiful islands await in the Caribbean, from the Bahamas to Costa Rica, US Virgin Islands, and so many more exotic choices.A Caribbean Cruise may create just the perfect honeymoon if you are looking to explore and visit more than one island. On a Caribbean cruise, you will get to see many amazing islands and tropical destinations on the same vacation, and typically for an all-inclusive price.

The only main consideration when planning a honeymoon to the Caribbean is to keep hurricane season in mind as you make your 2009 honeymoon plans.

A bride on is excited to be going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica with her soon-to-be hubby. Another bride, tying the knot in December 2009, is looking forward to her honeymoon in St. Barts and yet another, getting hitched in October 2009, is trekking to St. Lucia for the honeymoon.

Europe Offers 2009 Honeymoon Destinations
For another unforgettable 2009 honeymoon destination, many couples are considering trips to Europe for their post-wedding vacation plans. Cruises through Europe offer an extensive tour of many countries in a week, 10 days, or two-week vacation setting. Some couples may also plan their European honeymoons to involve ground transportation so they can visit several cities or countries during their honeymoons.

“My fiancé and I are going on a two-week honeymoon trip to Greece and Italy after our September wedding,” says Kathleen Coyne, of Chicago, IL. “We bought our plane tickets a few months ago (when we thought the economy wouldn’t impact us) and now are having to just deal with it. I think if we hadn’t booked the tickets, I would strongly suggest a cheaper trip to Mexico even if it is hurricane season.”

Coyne is still figuring out the budget, but anticipates that she and her soon-to-be husband will spend around $8K on their honeymoon.

Other Honeymoon Destinations for 2009
While Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and the Caribbean tend to be popular honeymoon destinations on many occasions, some couples are still finding other exciting, relaxing, and exotic 2009 honeymoon destinations. An August 2009 couple selected Disney World for
their honeymoon destination. Several other 2009 brides and grooms are leading toward an exotic honeymoon destination in Thailand later this year, or even South Asia – including Thailand, Bali, and Singapore.

Workout DVD Review: Get in Shape with Lalo Fuentes and LaloFit Freeze Technique

Workout DVD Review: Get in Shape with Lalo Fuentes and LaloFit Freeze Technique

I can’t remember feeling this exhilarated and accomplished in my workout routines since college when I just finished racing a 5K or playing an entire game of rugby.

I tried out the LaloFit Freeze Technique with Lalo Fuentes and I’m not kidding when I say buy this workout DVD. Not only do you feel your muscles working, but you learn to connect with each muscle group, thus ensuring you are doing each of the workout moves correctly. And with such an attractive workout instructor as Lalo Fuentes, if that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is!

LaloFit Freeze Technique brings together cardio, toning, balance, and a focus on your core and getting in touch with each muscle group. You can take the workout at your own pace, doing fewer repetitions if you are a beginner, or varying the weights to your own ability. The pace is fairly slow, so although you don’t receive specific instructions on how to do all the moves, you can learn the moves easily by watching and picking up the tips that Lalo Fuentes shares. With this slower pace, you can easily add more reps to each move if needed.

Work out with Lalo Fuentes and LaloFit Freeze Technique.Lalo’s workouts include everything from stretching exercises to warm up and cool down to floor exercises, lunges, squats, pushups, and crunches, to name a few. What I found to be pleasantly unique about this workout as compared to some of my other workout DVDs is that many of Lalo Fuentes’ Freeze Technique moves involve muscle groups from both the upper body and the lower body at the same time. As I was working out, I found myself noticing muscles I forgot I even had. In my exercise movements, I truly felt as if I were giving my entire body a great workout that would make a difference as long as I committed to a regular exercise program.

My only struggle with this workout DVD (besides endurance during a few of the moves – like pushups – because I am sadly not in the best shape of my life yet) is that the entire video is more than 50 minutes long. I loved the workout segments and the fact that you get a break with words of encouragement and inspiration after a number of different moves and repetitions for each. The problem with the length is that I cannot easily complete a 50+ minute workout before work, and knowing myself, some nights I am going to be too lazy, tired, or busy doing other things like cooking dinner, to actually complete the workout all the way through.

Work out with Lalo Fuentes and LaloFit Freeze Technique. However, I would be remiss if I failed to mention that the sexy workout instructor Lalo Fuentes makes the 50 minutes feel like a breeze. Finding the time is the tricky part, not spending the time. My plan is to complete a few sections at a time and work out over a couple days. Then, on days when I have more time, I’ll go through the entire video.

“In order to see fast results, I recommend you do the video three times per week, always leaving one day in between to let your body recover,” says Lalo Fuentes. “During the other days, do cardio and abs only, and always take one day off out of the week.”

“Some people who have tried the DVD have seen results as early as two weeks. After the second week you should feel with more energy through out your day and after 4 to 6 weeks, expect to see a lot of changes in your body. For those who don’t have a full hour to workout, I recommend to try doing the first half portion of the video, it includes full body movements so every muscles will be worked. Don’t forget to include some stretches at the end of your workout.”

All in all, I am excited to give this workout video my attention as I work to get back in shape for the springtime and summer. I am confident that the LaloFit Freeze Technique workout is going to help me by leaps and bounds in getting back into the best shape of my life.

Fun with Bendaroos – A Cool Springtime Activity to Do with Your Kids

There’s so much to say about Bendaroos (I don’t even know where to begin)…Bendaroos come in many different colors. (Photo by Barbara Baker)

They bring fun and excitement to any room, windows or wall. Bendaroos are perfect for kids of all ages; they open eyes to the world of imagination and they certainly entertain for hours and hours!

Sadly, I do have to admit that before I was offered the opportunity to review Bendaroos (like most parents); I wasn’t much for paying attention to the commercials for them. My daughters would scream out “I WANT THAT!” every time they heard the word “Bendaroos” or saw a commercial for them. Unfortunately, I just didn’t think that they’d be worth paying for (I hate being wrong).

However, I knew that my girls wanted these things, so I was pretty excited about trying them out AND, I knew that this would be a great way to put any skepticism behind me. It worked… these Bendaroos really are amazing and need to be on your list of “must haves” for spring things to do with the kids!

Barbara Baker's daughters enjoy playing with Bendaroos on the walls of their home. (Photo by Barbara Baker)I’ll be the first to declare that my kids aren’t always the kindest ones. They fight like most siblings and are very territorial about “their things”, but when I opened the box of Bendaroos it was like opening the gates to serenity. Not a single argument broke out. The box was filled with plenty of color strips for everyone to do what they wished. They happily helped each other create and were eager to have me take a look at what they did – TOGETHER!

There’s just so much that you and your little ones (and teen ones) can create with Bendaroos. All along my walls were dragons and swirls, flowers and suns, astronauts and space ships. It was just amazing to see what these kids were concocting. It was delightful to hear the subtle laughs and cheers throughout the house. What’s more; not one of them complained that they couldn’t make anything with the Bendaroos.

Bendaroos come in many different colors. (Photo by Barbara Baker)I definitely, without a doubt, applaud the creator of Bendaroos. These “magical” wax strips are something everyone should try. Even we parents can have fun with them (I know I did). You can imagine and do just about anything. The box even comes with an instructional poster to show you step by steps on how to create some of the wild and crazy things you can do with Bendaroos. There’s even a special page right now for some springtime themed creations. It’s just so fun!!!

Next time you’re trying to find something to do with your kids – think of Bendaroos! You can draw, build, decorate and transform anything. It will bring millions of smiles and laughs to the ones you love so much; those darling little ones.

You can get Bendaroos online at – Bendaroos Mega Set (500 Pieces) for $19.95 and eligible for free Super Saver Shipping.

A Great Way to Organize Your Shoes – “As Seen on TV” Shoes Under

Like many women, you probably own a ton of shoes – Shoes Under is a sensible shoe storage solution for your home.possibly with more than one pair to match each of your favorite outfits. With dozens of shoes and only so much closet space, what’s a girl to do? Rather than give up your beloved shoes or live in a perpetual state of shoe chaos, consider a more creative approach to organizing your shoes.

As you may have seen on TV, a new product called Shoes Under is available to serve your shoe storage needs. You can even store belts, scarves, and other small accessories in the compartments in the Shoes Under shoe storage solution. Shoes Under features a flexible canvas exterior with a clear plastic cover that zips around three sides to keep your shoes clean and protected.

Shoes Under is a sensible shoe storage solution for your home. After first seeing the Shoes Under commercial on television, I definitely thought it looked like a great product and I was excited to learn more. I was thrilled to review Shoes Under and to share my experience with all of you. For someone like me, who often finds organization around the home to be a challenge, the Shoes Under storage solution is a great alternative to keeping your shoes in their store boxes or simply under the bed or in the closet.

One Shoes Under shoe organizer can hold up to 12 pairs of shoes. In trying out Shoes Under, I found that some of my shoes fit into the compartments much better than others. I tend to wear a lot of high heels and more often, platform sandals. My shoes can be categorized as chunky heels or wide platforms, so I found a few of my pairs of shoes difficult to fit into the individual shoe compartments in the Shoes Under. Despite the tricky sizes and shapes of my shoes, I was still able to fit eleven pairs of shoes in my Shoes Under.

Shoes Under is a sensible shoe storage solution for your home. Also, I am not sure how well Shoes Under would accommodate men’s shoes – although I found it to be a great fit for my ladies’ size 7s. I have passed on my feedback about this and how my platform shoes fit, and hopefully we’ll soon see a new Shoes Under product with more room and versatility for wider, chunkier, and overall larger shoes!

Along the same lines, Shoes Under’s Instruction Guide notes that you can remove one or more dividers to accommodate larger shoes and even boots. I looked a few times and I don’t know exactly how to remove the dividers short of cutting them out. But, that kind of traps you into always keeping the same shoes inside Shoes Under, so my guess is that is not the expected solution. My recommendation if you find a tough time fitting your larger or taller shoes would be to simply lay them across as many compartments as needed, as the dividers are a soft and flexible, canvas type fabric that easily moves and gets out of the way to fit different kinds of shoes.

Shoes Under is a sensible shoe storage solution for your home.A few things you should know about Shoes Under: If you’ve seen the commercial on TV, please note that the majority of the rooms feature hardwood floors, which aids in the effortless sliding of the product in and out from under the bed. If your bedroom is like mine – with carpet – your experience may be different than what you expect from the commercial’s visual display of how easy it is to move the Shoes Under. While you may be expecting a similarly smooth sliding motion as seen on the TV commercial, what you will experience with carpeting is that the Shoes Under encounters considerable friction on a carpeted floor.

Another item of note – the frame of the Shoes Under is made of a softer fabric material, so the product’s shape does not stay firm when moving it under the bed and back out. While the commercial shows firm and rectangular edges, the edges of the product seem to bunch up due to the weight of the shoes and the friction from the carpeted floor. The storage solution does not maintain a strictly rectangular shape when using it on carpet; however, this may not be a major consideration for you if you have hardwood floors or simply don’t mind adjusting the Shoes Under’s shape whenever you replace it under the bed.

All in all, I really like the Shoes Under shoe storage and organization solution as an easy and neat way to keep my shoes organized and protected. I was previously using a long and short Rubbermaid container to store my shoes under the bed, but I like that I can see right through the cover on Shoes Under so I know whether the pair of shoes I want to wear is even inside. The product makes your under-the-bed storage area look so much nicer than cluttered piles of shoes which becomes so common for so many of us. I am thrilled to say, underneath my bed is cleaner and more organized thanks to Shoes Under!

You can buy the Shoes Under Storage System (Original As Seen On TV) online at the As Seen on TV Web site or at Prices range from $13.97 for one Shoes Under product or $10 plus $6.99 shipping and handling for two Shoes Under products.

Choosing Wine Bars, Wine Cabinets, and Classy Wine Storage Furniture

If you love wine and enjoy family meals or social events where you indulge in a bottle or a few bottles of wine at a time, perhaps a piece of wine furniture is the perfect new addition to your home décor. Crate and Barrel Depending on your personal styles and tastes, this may be just what your home needs for a fresh, new look!

Wine furniture comes in many shapes and sizes, such as wine bars, wine cabinets, wine towers, wine buffets, wine carts, and so much more. You might even consider a special refrigerator just to chill all your bottles of wine! A piece of wine furniture can really take a particular room – like a dining room – from ordinary to extraordinary.

How to Choose Wine Bars, Wine Cabinets, Wine Towers, and Other Wine Furniture
In your hunt for the perfect wine furniture for your home, consider a few things to help you find the right piece. Where do you want to put the wine furniture? What color is your existing furniture in that room? What style do you need your wine bar or wine tower to match, or, would you rather enhance the room’s décor with an accent piece? Should you look for a corner piece or will a traditional piece do? What kind of storage and display properties do you want in your wine bar, buffet, or tower – drawers, hanging wine glasses, a mirror? Finally, how many bottles of wine do you wish to store in this piece of wine furniture?

Once you have answered even just a few of these questions, your search for the right wine furniture for your home becomes so much easier. The color of the wood may be the first defining factor to help you pick the right piece, but you can use any of the above elements as a step in the right direction for finding a great piece of wine furniture to accent your home.

Don’t forget to speak with your family members and spouse or significant other to get some dialogue going on the best fit for new wine furnishings for your home. You can begin your search online or take a few trips to your favorite furniture stores on your search for great wine furnishings for your home.

Buying in a Store vs. Scouring the Web: Wine Bars, Buffets, and Other Wine Furniture
The Internet is a great place to start when you are on the hunt for just about anything. Even if you don’t want to buy your items online, you can really get a great idea about what you like, what you don’t like, the cost, and who’s selling what.

Searching online to find wine furniture can also benefit you in the amount of details that are right there at your fingertips. You can really find out a lot about the products you are considering, from dimensions (so go grab your tape measure and make sure it fits) to whether the particular piece of furniture requires assembly (so you can keep your handyman husband busy or pick out a guilt-free piece that comes already assembled) to the number of wine bottles the furniture can hold (and you know this is a major selling point – so go count your wine bottles and make sure there’s enough space!)

While you can learn a lot about the individual products online, you may also want to visit a store to check out some wine furniture in person. You will find that you have an easier time assessing the quality of something you can touch.

If you don’t need the piece to be extremely high end, you may be able to get away with buying it online simply based on the description and photographs provided. This might be a great way to get a good deal. Just make sure you check into the return policy should you encounter any problems once your new wine furniture arrives.

Whichever way you decide to buy, we hope you love your new furniture! Now, here are a few suggestions of various types of wine furniture that we like:

Budget-Proof Gifts: Say a Lot, Spend a Little!

Times are tough and money is tight anymore, so this article is designed to help you give meaningful gifts at a minimal investment. With the ever-climbing costs of fuel and everyday living, pinching pennies has never been more important. Use this handy guide to score the perfect present for your special someone.

To determine the best type of gift you can possibly afford, the first steps are to determine exactly what your budget is, and secondly, who is receiving the gift.

No Budget – Great ideas for gifts when you don’t have a dime to your name….

–Write a poem for your loved one-you can immortalize a person, a memory or a moment with a string of words. This sentimental motion will not be easily forgotten.

–If you are musically inclined, compose a song for the recipient! There is no feeling in the world quite like hearing a song and knowing you were in the mind of the composer.

–Using materials you already have, create a painting, or sketch or draw a picture/portrait for your friend or loved one.

–Film a fun video! Make your memories and laughs last a lifetime.

–Create a custom coupon booklet – Include such luxuries as a back rub, night without the kids… use your imagination!

Minimal Budget – Cool Creations and Ideas when you have a few bucks to spare….

–If you have MS Power Point and a CD burner, Make a slideshow with special pictures-play around with it and have fun. It is actually quite easy to add music in the background – so put your own soundtrack to your memories! (A dollar, give or take, depending on the cost of the CD)

–A hand-made, decorated photo frame is a thoughtful gift – especially after a recent special event or fun gathering in which you were both present. My friend gave me a frame she decorated herself in a Halloween theme with a picture of us in our costumes.

–Crafty little extras – Purchase inexpensive votive holders and design them as you wish, using the recipient’s favorite colors.

–Bake cookies or desserts for your special person – who can turn down homemade sweets!?

Just “A Budget” – For those extra-special people who make us want to spend our money

–Date-in-a-Box! Snag a gift card to the local movie rental, pick up a box of microwave popcorn and some movie theater style candy and you are all set!

–Play chef for the night – Make a special dinner of your loved one’s favorite meal, complete with candlelight, wine and dessert if you can manage it!

–Learn a craft really well and show off your skills… crochet or knit a blanket, sweater or scarf-or practice the art of glass painting and pick up some stained glass paints and a glass beer mug, vase, or item of your choice. Personalize as you desire and voila! You have a beautiful gift that will last and remind them of you for ages.

–Create a scrapbook for your special recipient-it doesn’t have to be anything elaborate, or you could spice it up as much as you want. Sometimes I use old construction paper and magazine clippings, and other times stickers and special materials from a craft store. For a really low budget scrapbook, check out the dollar store for mini-scrapbooks and add your own special touches.

Sometimes the most sentimental gifts cost very little or nothing at all…. The time and care you pour into a gift for a loved one says more than your charge slip or next bank statement. In fact, some of the most treasured items are so special due to your understanding of the person – i.e. how well you know him or her. In most cases, effort, time and thoughtfulness are more important than the price tag.

Easter and Passover Entertaining Tips for Hosting a Family Event

When celebrating Easter and Passover with family, friends, and neighbors, take some time to think of special ways to show you care. Easter is a great time to host a party and have some fun. (Photo by Barbara Baker)You can have lots of fun planning new Easter / Passover traditions or following old Easter / Passover traditions. If you’d like to host a family event at your own home for Easter or Passover, consider some of these entertaining tips for hosting the holidays.

If you want to host Easter or Passover at your home, consider your cooking and serving plan (buffet style may work well for larger groups), as well as your decorations (fresh flowers, candles, and reed diffusers can go a long way in adding delightful fragrance to your home). Get creative with your entertaining style and your home decorations for Easter and Passover. Most of all, celebrate the special time with your family and loved ones.

Here are a few additional tips from various experts in special events and entertaining:

Easter and Passover Tips for Entertaining – By Alison Minton
Holidays are wonder opportunities to gather a family together to celebrate traditions and observe religious beliefs, but they can also be stressful and expensive for the host and hostess. This spring, a few simple time and money saving tips can make Easter or Passover more enjoyable for the hosts and more colorful for the guests.

1. Forego an expensive floral arrangement as a centerpiece and fill a large glass bowl or wide-neck vase with colorful fruit instead.
Lemons, limes, tangerines, plums, small apples, and even small pomegranates work well. Choose one colorful type of fruit or combine several for a more vibrant display. Or, fill a large glass bowl with colorful Easter eggs, decorated by the children in the family.  Plastic eggs work, too, and the kind that open can hide small surprises or fortunes that make a fun diversion during dessert. More elegant table settings can be spruced up with a round, flat mirror upon which several white or ivory votive candles should be placed.

2. Instead of ordering an expensive cake from a local bakery, bake or buy a plain cake and coat it with store bought vanilla frosting.
Decorate the top with edible flowers or confetti sprinkles. Or, for really informal family gatherings, set out vanilla frosted cupcakes and an array of toppings for do it yourself fun that both kids and grownups love. Sprinkles, gummy bears, M&Ms, and jelly beans all work well.

3. Freeze green grapes and use them instead of or in addition to ice cubes in water or lemonade glasses for a colorful twist. The grapes won’t float, but can be alternated with ice cubes for a parfait effect without altering the taste of the drink.

4. In lieu of tomatoes, add color and flavor to ordinary green salads with fruit and chopped nuts.
Dried strawberries, mandarin orange slices, or grapefruit slices (not all three at once) are especially tasty with darker greens, and vinaigrette dressing.

5. For some families, homemade soup is a staple of any holiday gathering. A nice, light, simple one for spring is my Italian grandmother’s own recipe:

Grandma Gondiosa’s Peas & Pasta Soup

1.    Boil water in medium saucepan.  Add 4 oz of Ronzoni Ditalini 40 (best) or Tubettini 42 and cook according to directions on package.  Drain and set aside.
2.    In another medium saucepan heat 1-2 tablespoons of oil (I recommend Canola oil) and chopped onion, as much as desired, and sauté lightly.
3.    Add 4 oz of canned Del Monte tomato sauce and stir until hot.
4.    Add a 15 oz can of peas and stir until hot.
5.    Add approx 22 oz of water (1.5 peas cans of water) and stir until hot.
6.    Add a pinch each of salt & pepper.
7.    Add the pasta to the tomato sauce mixture, stir and serve.

Sassy Easter Celebration – By Steve Kemble, “America’s Sassiest Lifestyle Guru”

The Devil Made You Do It!
What better time than Easter to have fun with your deviled eggs! Be creative and fill them with wonderful ingredients! They are wonderful hollowed and filled with scrambled eggs and topped with bacon, or how about pimento cheese? The sky is the limit, so be creative!!

Rollin! Rollin!
A fun activity for kids and adults alike is an Easter Egg Roll on the lawn. It is an Easter tradition everyone loves! Divide your guests up into teams, and then set up an area where they can paint their eggs in the spirit of their team name. Make it more challenging by poking a hole in the ends of the egg and draining (or blowing) out the raw contents.  The light egg adds an extra challenge to the Roll!

Spring Flowers!
Start your traditional Easter meal with a wonderful salad garnished with beautiful fresh edible flowers (so Sassy!) like nasturtium. Not only does this flower have a wonderful peppery taste, but it is beautiful as well!

Go Out!
In most parts of the country, Easter weather is glorious and one of the first opportunities to enjoy being alfresco. If at all possible, plan a picnic and Sassy it up with china and fresh flowers. Your guests will love being outdoors and will enjoy an Easter occasion that is a little less formal. Lawn games, such as croquet and volleyball, add great fun as well!

Work It! … on the Runway…
Easter is the time when most of the country presents a new look. Everyone remembers as a child getting those Easter outfits, and for most of us as adults, it is still the perfect excuse for a new ensemble! Set up a mock runway and stage a fashion show right in your home. Have the fathers escort their daughters! Give all disposable cameras and let them snap away like the paparazzi at the best couture shows in Paris and Milan as your guests “work it!”

Sassy Entertaining Tip
Want to really dress up your table? Take a white table cloth and make it extra Sassy by attaching (with safety pins) feather boas to the bottom of the cloth in wonderful pastel colors. It makes for a great border. For an extra Sassy touch, take boas in those colors and tie them to the back of each guest’s chair. So festive and fun, and the perfect favor for your guests to take home with them!

Sassy Fashion Tip
Easter is about bonnets! Go to a local discount store and buy simple straw bonnets. Supply your guests with feathers, glitter, plastic flowers, ribbon spray paint and fabric remnants. Have a contest for the best bonnet! Make yours in advance and parade around like a proud peacock! It will inspire others to do the same!

Fun Easter Activities to Do as a Family; PAAS Easter Egg Dye Kits Review

I’ve always enjoyed crafts that the kids and I can do together. Paas Easter Egg Dye Kits are a timeless way to celebrate. (Photos by Barbara Baker)And, no matter what the occasion; family fun is (in my home) always a must. It’s a way for my kids to feel included in whatever it is we have going on. Sharing these moments with my kids also inspires and motivates their creativity, which is such an important part of their emotional and developmental skills.

For more than 125 years, PAAS has been helping all Americans celebrate Easter. PAAS has indulged us with Easter egg decorating kits that the whole family can enjoy. From flowers and stickers to paints and dyes, this visual candy has and always will be considered a “must have” on Easter!

Aside from the important biblical reasons for celebrating Easter, it is also a time for any and all children to let their imaginations soar. The anticipation of where the Easter bunny will hide their decorated eggs for them to seek, the glorious food atop of each table, and the family gatherings that last the whole day through. Easter is a special day for all of us and how we celebrate this day is as different as each magnificently decorated egg.

Paas Easter Egg Dye kits are fun for the whole family. (Photos by Barbara Baker)When my family received the new PAAS kits in the mail, I guarantee the noise in the house rose about 100 Decibels. The excitement was pretty high not only for the kids, but for me too. Easter has always been one of my favorite holidays, and to get these kits in the mail was like opening the doors to spring.

Now, although I really wanted to, we didn’t tear into the kits that day. A close friend of mine and I decided to make a special day of it. We wanted to do a little pre-Easter, Easter day celebration. So, that following Sunday we came together and planned for a Bar-B-Q. We let the kids play outside while “us moms” boiled eggs and prepared the craft table inside; the dads sat outside tending to the fire and watching kids – without really knowing that we planned it that way (LOL).

The PAAS kits were a success… the kids were entertained for hours and not a single argument broke. Each child picked a spot, started with that kit, and worked their way around the table until each kit was tried. Then we let them do one egg with a little of each kit (a concoction of fun, if you may). Once they decorated their eggs, we took pictures and asked the kids what they thought. They loved it so much that they can’t wait to do it again… looks like we’re going shopping.

The kits I received were as follows:
Paas Easter Egg Dye kits are fun for the whole family. (Photos by Barbara Baker)PAAS color squirt – this kit was pretty fun. The kids were able to use their muscles with this one. They “squirted” the eggs with color using a little paint pump and their choice of color. This kit comes with a 12-piece egg drying tray, 12 silly circles, 8 egg stands, and 6 PAAS food coloring tablets; 3 pouches of non-toxic paint, 3 paint pumps, 1 plastic tray, and 1 egg dipper.

PAAS flower power – The kids really loved this… they were all VERY sticker happy! The kit includes 45 flower power stickers, 20 multi-color flower sequins, 12 piece egg drying tray, 12 silly circles, 8 egg stands and 6 PAAS food coloring tablets; 5 flower power strands, 1 egg dipper and 1 non-toxic glue pen.

PAAS brilliant beads – Whether it’s a girl or boy decorating an egg with this kit, they’re going to have fun. It’s like the “momma” of all kits. This kit included 37 stickers, 15 piece egg drying tray, 15 silly circles, 12 egg strands and 6 PAAS food coloring tablets; 4 bags of multi-colored beads, 2 glitter pens, 1 non-toxic glue pen, and 1 egg dipper. Deviled Eggs are a great end result of Easter Egg Dyeing Adventures! (Photo by Barbara Baker)

I had so much fun with the kids and kits that I’d recommend purchasing a few extra kits this year. What I like to do is stack the boxes away and every once in a while (as a “just because” day) pull them out and have some fun. It doesn’t have to be a holiday to entertain your child with a PAAS kit, trust me. The plus to the whole experience is that it makes for some wonderfully delicious Deviled eggs afterwards!!!

Easter Entertaining Tips for Kids of All Ages – How to Make Gum Pops

Every time Easter is close to hopping into our days, the kids and I like to find ways to keep us entertained. Make these delightful Easter gum pops with this recipe from Beth Kimmerle. If the craft involves something that will be edible afterwards, than that’s even better. After all, who doesn’t enjoy eating their own creations?

I’m sure that with “spring” comes spring cleaning (for most of us) and our poor little ones patiently (not always eagerly) await the completion of this long and overbearing task that parents feel so obligated to do. We know it must drive the kids crazy, and we’re not their favorite people at that moment, but, I have a solution that can rid your kid’s frustration for many hours.

This craft idea is such an ingenious idea that I wish I had the smarts to have thought it up myself, but I didn’t (darn). I do, however, wish to give credit where credit is due; the wonderful candy expert and chocolate historian, Beth Kimmerle. This wonderful lady has gifted me with a cool and exciting recipe that will kick those springtime “spring cleaning” blues out the door and leave your kids wanting more. What’s more; it’s perfect for those Easter gatherings when you want to be the one showing up with home-crafted gifts.

The girls and I personally had a great time. We shared in silly stories and told jokes as we squeezed gum between our hands as we made them. The girls enjoyed every bit of the fun that exploded at our kitchen table. The wait for the pops to set was a little agonizing, but once they bit into what “they” made, it was all worth it.

It’s great for any budget and gives many hours of fun not only for the kids but for the whole family. The reward; a beautifully decorated gum pop!

Beth’s concept is perfect for giving kids of all ages a great activity and fun decoration for spring.

Make these delightful Easter gum pops with this recipe from Beth Kimmerle. This is all you need to make some far out, gorgeous gum pops:

You will need:
1.    Plastic candy mold
2.    Several softened sticks of gum
3.    Lollipop sticks
4.    Vegetable oil or non-stick spray

Gum color recommendations:
1.    Juicy Fruit for yellow
2.    5 Elixir and Lush for pink and orange
3.    Extra Fruit Sensations Berry Paradise for purple
4.    Extra Spearmint for green
5.    Hubba Bubba Max Island Punch for blue and green

1.    Clean and dry plastic molds. Using vegetable oil or non-stick spray, lightly grease inside mold cavities. Set molds aside.

2.    Unwrap and soften stick gum by kneading in the palm of your hand.  The amount of gum you will need depends on mold size, but start by kneading several sticks at a time and once soft, place and press firmly into mold cavity.  If more gum is needed, repeat steps until mold is completely filled. The softer the gum, the better. Try a brand like Juicy Fruit for best results.

3.    To transform molded shapes into lollipops, lay sticks along the back of the mold and cover with additional pieces of softened gum.

4.    Once molds are filled and sticks are in place, give each a final press and place in refrigerator for about one hour or until gum is completely hardened.  Once chilled, remove plastic molds, gently ease gum shape from cavity and enjoy!

See, I bet just reading the simple instructions made you drool. I know your mind started wondering who you were going to be gifting these with on Easter Sunday…. I’ve got an answer; everyone. You mustn’t leave anyone out, trust me, they’ll know.
