EXOTIC HAWAIIAN FLORAL CENTERPIECES
As you imagine your dream wedding, do you see lots and lots of exotic, tropical or Hawaiian flowers? Flowers often serve as a key ingredient in the overall theme and look of the wedding. Your flowers can be bold, making a statement, or they can be subdued and easily forgotten. Think about the statement you want your flowers to make before you get too far into planning.
If flowers are important to you, give lots of thought to the types, styles, colors, and the number of arranged flowers you want to have at your wedding. If flowers are not especially high on your list of priorities, there are many ways to cut costs, starting with the floral centerpieces. Consider these floral ideas for your wedding centerpieces.
Hawaiian Lei Centerpiece
Orchids often grace the necks of visitors to Hawaii as fresh floral leis. Floral leis made of orchids are not going to be cheap, but they will dazzle your guests and surely will attract lots of attention if set as your centerpiece. Consider this idea: Place a circular or octagonal mirror in the center of the table. Surround it with white votive candles and scatter a few small, loose seashells around the center part of the table. Drape the fresh orchid lei atop the mirror, creating a wavy design that reflects upward from the image on the glass.
Floating Flowers
As an alternative to the fresh floral leis, consider glass bowls or wide vases with floating lilies, orchids, or other tropical flowers. These types of centerpieces are simple, economical, and the glass bowls are definitely reusable. You could add a pillar candle for a more dramatic effect, or consider adding small floating candles to your floating flower arrangement.
FRUIT, COLORS, AND CREATURES
Let’s not forget about all the beauty and functionality of fresh fruit, candles, and even live fish! Your creativity truly is your limitation, along with your budget. Using your imagination, you should be able to devise a centerpiece that perfectly fits the theme of your wedding.
Consider these ideas or use them to come up with your own perfect beach or Hawaiian wedding centerpieces!
Swishy Fishies
For a lovely and peaceful centerpiece idea for your beach or Hawaiian wedding, you might consider a beta fish, goldfish, or other fish, swimming gracefully in a crystal clear vase or bowl. You can accent the centerpiece with your wedding colors by adding pretty glass stones or seashells along the bottom of the container.
Some folks may feel strongly about the well-being of the fish in this scenario. If you are planning a rowdy wedding, it would be best not to endanger them; however, if you feel they will be safe, you might consider it. For an alternative that does not involve live fish, you can get gorgeous glass fish, many of which look quite realistic!
One container I really like for the fish theme or for a beach or Hawaiian wedding is a hand-blown glass fishbowl that is actually shaped like a fish. I had two of these at my wedding, used more for accent pieces than anything else. They make a lovely fishbowl in the home after the wedding festivities have concluded.
Fresh Fruit
If you want a centerpiece that is truly delicious and reusable, why not choose a fresh fruit basket? Your guests can enjoy the fruit, splitting it amongst the table or taking it home to share with the family. Imagine a pretty pineapple surrounded by loose, scattered hibiscus or orchids. You could also create a pretty arrangement with the fruit in a nice, tropical basket.
For a fruit-filled centerpiece that will knock your guests’ socks off and look and taste great, look into getting a fresh or exotic fruit bouquet. Fresh fruit bouquets and exotic fruit bouquets provide constant nourishment to your guests. These edible arrangements serve as wonderful conversation pieces and focal points for your wedding photographer’s lens before they get devoured. Colors can be vibrant reds (strawberries), yellows (pineapple), oranges (cantaloupe), greens and purples (grapes), and so on down the line. Fruit bouquets consist of attractively carved fruit bits secured to a centerpiece, usually with wooden skewers. The fruit can stem from vases, baskets, buckets, or just about any container you can imagine.
Some other centerpiece ideas you might consider for a beach or tropical wedding:
- Message in a bottle or ship in a bottle
- Palm tree themes
- Potted exotic flowers or plants
- Sandcastle décor
- Tiki themes
As you plan your wedding, keep your centerpieces in mind and don’t panic if you can’t think of the perfect arrangement early on. Get ideas from other brides, from magazines, from the Internet, and from the florist’s scrapbook. Use your creative mind and talk about your ideas with your family and friends. With enough thought, you are sure to come up with a perfect wedding centerpiece for your special day!
