Spring 2012 Nail Polish Trend #1: Bright, Bright, Bright!
You might not be surprised to find that some of the hottest nail lacquer colors for spring 2012 include bright hues in yellows, oranges, blues, purples, and greens. The trends for spring 2012 hot nail polish colors are leaning towards shades that make a statement, grabbing attention, and accenting an outfit like the perfect fashion accessory.

“I would say these bright colors are one of most exciting collections yet,” says Natasha Polikov, co-owner of Marina and I Salon. “As always, nail colors are dictated by fashion and it is not an exception this year. The biggest colors in fashion are orange and yellow. And nail colors are following with wonderful oranges, corals, salmons, and, of course, yellows. And absolutely any bright and delicious color that will compliment any and all of those, including the brightest pinks, most luscious lavenders, deep and seductive hues of blue, and spring reds.”

Polikov respects that not all women are bold and daring with their nail polish colors, though, and she recommends a few easy ways to adapt the trends to personal comfort zones for nail colors.

“Some of us ladies are a little shy, a little softer perhaps, and there are colors for us are there as well,” she says. “All the same colors work, but just in shades a little more mysterious like smoky blue, quiet gray, mysterious very light violet, beautiful sage, and very soft shimmers.”

OPI’s Spring 2012 nail polish lineup, the Holland Collection, fits the bill for both bold and bright colors as well as more subdued yet still gorgeous shades in the same theme. Colors include rich reds and purples, medium blues, a softer sage green, and a few pinks and coffee hues, among others. There truly is something for everyone in OPI’s spring 2012 collection, whether it’s a basic off-white or light pink, or a truly deep purple or a fun coral red.

Another set of bright and pretty nail colors to try for spring are the daniPro polishes, which are a doctor-formulated brand that includes a topical antifungal to keep your nails free from nail fungus and discoloration while looking beautiful. The daniPro collection includes bold and bright colors like My Girl PURE PINK, Stop And Smell the Flowers LILAC, and First Kiss RED, but also includes lighter shades like Love is All PINK, and neutrals in nude, steel, and even clear coats. I received four bottles of daniPro nail polish to review. The polishes apply smoothly but may need a couple of coats to reach your desired depth of color. I especially like the lilac shade, which has a shiny and juicy appearance. The colors really “pop” on your nails and I love how bright they appear. These nail polishes are natural, organic, and safe to use, formulated to be healthier for those using them, as they are free from formaldehyde, DBP, and toluene.

Spring 2012 Nail Polish Trend #2: Classics and Subtle Neutrals – Beige, Cream, and Pinks
It seems the neutral shades of nail polish never go out of style! Some additional spring 2012 hot nail polish colors include sweet shades of pink, cream, and beige, offering a softer look that works for business as well as pleasure. Dress up your nails for a formal occasion or everyday wear – these nice neutrals and soft, subtle nail polish colors will keep your look fresh and feminine no matter what the occasion.

Paul & Joe’s spring 2012 nail enamels feature a nude beige, an elegant pink, and a flirty rose color specifically chosen for springtime. This nail polish collection is unique in that it was actually inspired by owner Sophie Albou’s love of cats as an ode to Paul & Joe Beaute’s 10 year anniversary. The adorable cat themed nail polish boxes are too cute for words so hopefully the picture does them justice. I received a bottle of Manekineko (027), which is a bright, hot pink nail polish that brings together romance and playfulness in one bottle. I especially loved the ease of application with the nail polish brush, but the shape of the bottle is also attractive and easy to hold and open. Some of the key ingredients in this specialty nail enamel include orange flower water, white lily extract, jojoba oil, chamomilla recutita, and pearl calc extract, each with its own purpose to moisturize, soften skin, or protect your nails. Paul & Joe’s spring 2012 nail polishes retail for $14 and are available for purchase at b-glowing.com and beautyhabit.com.

From Professional to Sensational in Seconds – Johnny on the Spot Bosom Bandeau Review

I have always loved to dress up, ever since I was a little girl. I enjoy wearing dresses for no special reason – just going to work, and I also like cute sets of tops and skirts with just the right shoes. Sometimes I find my dresses and shirts are perfectly cut for going out with the girls or on a date night with my husband, but they may not be the most work-appropriate outfits, depending on how low-cut the neckline happens to be.

Rather than not wear my favorite tops and dresses to work at all, I am so excited I learned about a new product from Johnny on the Spot!™ that allows you to turn any low-cut top or dress into a more business appropriate garment. I received a black Bosom Bandeau from Johnny on the Spot for the purpose of this review and I’m thrilled to share my feelings about this versatile fashion accessory.

The Johnny on the Spot Bosom Bandeau is simply a soft fabric band that comfortably fits around your chest much like a bandeau bra, swimsuit, or tube top would. It can be pulled upward a bit for a more conservative look or adjusted accordingly to suit your needs. The Bosom Bandeau is so easy to put on and take off so you can quickly convert your look from business to sexy socialite in a matter of seconds.

I really enjoy how soft and comfortable this fabric is. Did I mention I am also eight months pregnant? I have a size medium-large Bosom Bandeau and I’ve already found it to be more comfortable than most of the bras that I own in a full cup and strap size higher than before I got pregnant. It is important to note that this product can be worn in tandem with your bra, but I have even worn it when I’ve been too lazy or tired to wear a bra around the house and it feels better than going bare. The fabric is super comfortable, and while there really isn’t the support needed to make up for a bra, that is not this product’s purpose – just a nice little bonus for those of us who want to have some coverage without the bulkiness of a true bra.

I wore the Bosom Bandeau with a V-neck halter dress to work, along with a little short-sleeved cover-up, and it ended up looking awesome. It was conservative enough to wear to the office, yet I still got to wear a brand-new dress I was itching to wear. When I got home, I swiftly and easily removed the bandeau so I could have a nice dinner with my husband. Voila – instant wardrobe extender. I am a huge fan and I highly recommend this product.

You can get Johnny on the Spot products like the Bosom Bandeau at Duane Reade for retail prices ranging from $5 to $25.

Tips for Planning a Romantic Birthday Celebration

Some people love celebrating their birthdays while others secretly try to let their birthdays pass by under the radar. Those who like to celebrate their birthday typically enjoy spending the day with family, friends, or their significant other. If you are dating or married to someone who looks forward to his or her birthday, a romantic birthday celebration may be the perfect way to show how much you care. Here are a few tips on planning a romantic birthday celebration for the one you love.

Before you get too far into the planning phases, first consider these key points. Will you plan the birthday just for the two of you, or will other people be involved? Will you stay at home or travel somewhere? What is the budget? Will you celebrate on the actual birth date or will you plan the romantic birthday events on the weekend closest to the actual birth date?

Once you know the answers to the above questions, you will find it much easier to make romantic birthday plans. Here are some suggestions to consider, ensuring your sweetheart’s birthday is romantic and memorable.

•    Plan a weekend away at a bed and breakfast, romantic hotel, or other destination.
•    Plan a birthday scavenger hunt with clues and a special present as the final item.
•    Make plans to visit a local spa for a couples massage with champagne and chocolate or consider a steam bath or other romantic spa treatment.
•    Take a trip to a local winery and enjoy your own private tour and tasting.
•    Spend the day snuggled up at home, give each other massages, and order food to be delivered while you watch a movie together, relaxing the day away.
•    Go out on the town for dinner and dancing.
•    Treat your significant other to a personal shopping spree. (within reason!)
•    Cook a gourmet dinner together, complete with dessert.
•    Prepare a romantic candlelit dinner for your sweetheart, complete with romantic music in the background.
•    Hire a personal chef to come and cook for you on the birthday evening.
•    Go out for a classic dinner and a movie date.
•    Relive your first date down to the last detail.
•    Make your honey a birthday cake from scratch and decorate it with a romantic message.
•    Go for a walk in the park holding hands and enjoy a picnic if it’s a nice day.
•    Take a creative class together like glassblowing or pottery throwing.
•    Go for a boat ride, a hike, go skating, or biking.

The actual activity you do for a romantic birthday celebration is usually the biggest piece, but don’t forget to have a birthday present handy as well as a sweet and romantic birthday card with your own romantic, handwritten note inside. Here are some examples of romantic birthday sayings you can consider. Be sure to let your lover know how much you care and just what he or she means to you.

Johnny on the Spot Deodorant Removing SpongeIf the makers of Miss Oops and the Johnny on the Spot collection marketed their Deodorant Removing Sponge to the wedding crowd, they’d be sure to make a mint. This is a top-notch product that really does what it promises. White deodorant so often leaves marks on our clothing, whether it’s under our arms or on our wedding date’s suit jacket. Even when trying on outfits, deodorant can really take a toll on tank tops and tees as we try to decide what to wear.

Thankfully, each garment you decide not to wear doesn’t have to go straight for the laundry basket. The Johnny on the Spot Deodorant Removing Sponge removes the white deodorant marks swiftly and efficiently, leaving you with clean and fresh looking clothes.

I received one Johnny on the Spot Deodorant Removing Sponge for the purpose of this review, and you can bet it will be in my purse, or at least in our car, whenever we go to the next wedding or formal event, and every fancy evening thereafter. I love how effective this product is at sweeping away any deodorant marks, dust, and powder from the clothing. Simply brush the deodorant marks briskly and watch them fade away to nothing.

This sponge is like an eraser for pesky deodorant marks and is meant to be used as a dry sponge. You may be surprised to learn it can also help to remove makeup powder, baby powder, and more. What to Pack in Your Overnight Hospital Bag When You’re Expecting

What to Pack in Your Hospital Bag for When the Baby ComesAs you near the end of your pregnancy, you’ve likely got a million things on your mind. If you’re like me, you may have quite a few loose ends to tie together – shopping for a bigger car, worrying over the baby furniture that you ordered that won’t be here till after the baby. The truth is, some things just can’t be helped. Most times it is best to worry about the things you can control rather than those that are out of your hands. With this in mind, I’ve polled some experts to help us remember some important things to pack in our hospital overnight bags for whenever the baby decides he or she is ready to make that grand appearance.

Packing to go anywhere – on a business trip, on vacation – can certainly be a stressful experience, so it helps to have a packing list – especially for something as big as having a baby. Here are some of the top things that women and doctors recommend packing in your emergency bag for when you go to the hospital to have your baby.

Experts at Philips AVENT recommend packing one bag for yourself and one for your baby if possible, to ensure you have all the necessities. Packing the bag by 36 weeks is generally a good time frame just in case you go into labor earlier than expected.

“The hospital bag can become a huge source of stress between couples because it never gets packed — until her water breaks, he’s hysterical in his own macho way, and the emotions cycle high into a fight over ‘the bag,’” says April Masini of AskApril.com. “So, my advice is always: Pack it early, and feel free to re-pack, add, or take away any items you want to at any time. But pack it. When? At the six month mark. I know this sounds crazy, but premature babies are born early. And they’re usually a surprise. They’re not that uncommon. Premature labor is stressful and nobody knows it’s ‘false’ labor until the hospital sends you home. Why add to your stress, and put extra pressure on your relationship with your husband, when you can alleviate so much of it by packing the bag early?”

What to Pack in a Hospital Bag for Mom
–    Your birth plan
–    List of people to call, as well as phone numbers
–    Slippers or cushy socks
–    Knee length cotton night-gowns (2 or 3) for labor and after (preferably not white!) with buttons down the front for breastfeeding or comfortable pajamas
–    Comfortable underwear and maternity pads (the hospital may also offer pads)
–    Nursing bras
–    Nipple cream and breast pads (NEW from Philips AVENT–both Day and Night Breast Pads and more soothing Breastcare Thermo Pads)
–    Standard toiletries (shampoo, conditioner, soap or body wash, face wash, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste)
–    Your razor (If you plan on nursing, you will appreciate being able to shave under your arms rather than worrying over stubble.)
–    Your own personal towel and pillow with a recognizable pattern
–    Snacks like energy bars, trail mix, granola bars, and fruit
–    Ear plugs (for you and your husband or partner)
–    Makeup
–    Lotion
–    Lip balm
–    Tissues
–    Prenatal vitamins
–    Glasses or contact lenses
–    Comfortable clothing to wear home (maternity clothes will be your best bet)
–    Plastic bag for dirty laundry
–    Magazines or a book to pass the time before baby comes
–    A notepad for gifts – “Visitors LOVE to bring you gifts while you’re in the hospital,” shares Dallas Louis, a mom of three and author of the upcoming The Mommy Diaries: How I’m Surviving Parenting without Killing Anyone (May 2012). “The trouble with this is the card will inevitably get separated from the gift during the transfer from the hospital to the house. If you have a notepad to quickly jot down who gave what, once the fog of just giving birth clears, your thank-you note process will be much easier if you wrote it down.”
–    A calling card, since you often can’t use a cell phone in your hospital room

“Be careful not to take anything valuable or very sentimental,” say the experts at Philips AVENT. “If you take your own pillows or towels, take patterned ones so they are less likely to disappear. It’s important that you are comfortable during labor and having your own pillow can be a real comfort.”

Nicole Atkinson of Push to Start, Inc. recommends bringing gourmet chocolates for the nurses who will be caring for you.

“I brought a few bags of Lindt truffles to give to the staff,” she recalls. “They appreciated the gesture and took great care of me. I’m sure they would have regardless, but I like to think it helped sweeten my care a bit more.”

She also suggests bringing your makeup to keep you looking like yourself.

“You may not want to put on a full face, but pictures will be taken and you don’t want to look like you were dragged by a train when you’re holding your new baby,” she says.

Easter Punch Ideas

Try mixing Sprite, 7Up or Ginger Ale with Hawaiian Punch and top with a few generous scoops of rainbow sherbet. This delicious nonalcoholic Easter punch recipe will be great for all the little ones and anyone who isn’t ready for a cocktail just yet.

If you wish to make a fancy Easter punch that is alcoholic, consider adding a fruity liquor like coconut rum, triple sec, or peach schnapps to the punch bowl. Be sure to label it so no little ones partake. You can also float slices of orange, maraschino cherries, and other yummy fruit pieces for a pretty and picture-perfect Easter punch.

Tips and Tricks on Filling the Perfect Easter Basket

Easter basket ideas for kids, teens, preteens, adults, and grandkidsEaster comes along with the urge to enjoy lots of sweet treats amid pastel colors and lovely signs of nature. The perfect Easter basket may have representation from all three of these areas, even if only figuratively. No matter if you have young children, teenagers and preteens, or grown kids and even grandkids, you can find a nice array of treats, goodies, toys, and trinkets to include in the Easter baskets you create.

Remember, Easter baskets can be whatever you want them to be. You can include a lot of little items with lesser value or just a few items with one or two higher value gifts. You can also include different Easter basket fillings for different age groups. Consider these suggestions on filling the perfect Easter basket for your kids based on their age group.

Easter Basket Ideas for Little Ones
Young children will love the thrills of Easter, from finding the eggs to enjoying all the candy and special treats. The magic of the Easter Bunny and other spring traditions will become a favorite piece of this springtime holiday. Though you may not need to go to great lengths to impress your young ones, here are a few suggestions for things you can put in their Easter baskets.
•    Candy
•    Stuffed animals
•    Plastic Easter eggs filled with treats or toys
•    Easter books
•    Easter movies

Easter Basket Ideas for Preteens and Teenagers
Even your preteens and teenagers will appreciate a little something special on Easter. Depending on your budget, consider these Easter basket ideas for teens and preteens.
•    Candy, gum, and treats
•    Music, MP3 players, headphones, and other accessories
•    Perfume, cosmetics, nail polish, etc.
•    Gift cards to their favorite stores
•    Books, movies, and video games

Easter Basket Ideas for Grown Children / Adults
Grown children (think college students) and adults will still enjoy a special treat this holiday. You may not need to go as far above and beyond as you did in your earlier days, but consider these fun basket fillers for grown children and young adults around Easter time.
•    Candy, gum, and treats
•    Cash or gift cards
•    Photo albums
•    Movies, books, games, and gadgets
•    Wine, beer, or liquor
•    Cool items that match their hobbies – golf accessories, cooking gadgets, etc.

Easter Baskets for Grandkids
Filling up an Easter basket for your grandchildren can be so exciting but it can also be an expensive task, depending on the limits you set for yourself. Here are some suggestions on what you can include in an Easter basket for your grandchildren.
•    Stuffed animals
•    Cars and trucks
•    Playing cards or small games
•    Movies, books, puzzles, music CDs
•    Candy, cookies, and other treats
•    Fun crafts or activities to do as a family

These are just a few ideas for what you can use to fill up an Easter basket for your children or grandchildren, depending on their ages. You can also opt for a large ticket item like an MP3 player, handheld video game, a new smart phone, or some other expensive yet popular item.

Even adults can put together Easter baskets for each other. A husband may want to put a nice piece of jewelry as the centerpiece of an Easter basket for his wife, while the wife may find a nice watch or some cigars and cigar accessories for her husband. It all goes back to how well you know the person for whom you want to make the Easter basket. Good luck and Happy Easter!

Stonefire Authentic Tandoori Naan

Stonefire Authentic Flatbreads exclusively offer the only commercially available naan cooked in a Tandoor oven, an ancient method of cooking in high temperatures. Naan is a traditional teardrop shaped flatbread originally from Persia, but now popular in many places across the globe. Although this food is an often accompaniment to Indian cuisine, you don’t need to be eating this type of cooking in order to enjoy this product.

As a family owned bakery for more than 40 years, Stonefire Flatbreads focus on perfecting authentic and traditional recipes for its products. Stonefire Authentic Naan is made with all-natural ingredients, is hand stretched, and comes in three delicious flavors-Original, Garlic, and Whole Grain. Because there are no preservatives in Stonefire flatbread products, they should be used within 6 days or stored in the freezer.

I’ve received all three types of Stonefire Authentic Tandoori Naan to try out and all have my tastebuds’ approval! These flatbreads are perfect for creating a variety of meals, snacks, or sides from wraps, pizzas, and paninis to slicing it up and dipping it in hummus or guacamole.  Use two warmed naan to replace your basic slice of bread to create a Naanwich (TM). It’s also great just by itself to accompany any meal. As a huge bread fan I was happy just to snack on a warm soft piece out of the oven.

Stonefire Naan is quick and easy to prepare. Simple sprinkle on some water and heat in your oven or on your stovetop. I’ve used the convection oven setting on my microwave, which works perfectly as well. (The typical microwave setting is not recommended for heating of this product.)

Visit their website as well as on Facebook for more tasty recipe ideas, many of which were created and featured on the reality tv show, Hell’s Kitchen. Play the game at home and use your own imagination to create new recipes new meal or snack to your usual at home menu. If you’re not feeling adventurous with your diet, try melting cheese on the naan for a twist on the classic grilled cheese.

Essence of Beauty Strawberry Banana Lip Butter Review

Essence of Beauty Strawberry Banana Lip Butter ReviewWhenever I see something with strawberry banana flavoring, I usually have to try it. This normally applies to smoothies and lip balms. It was a no-brainer when I saw Essence of Beauty Strawberry Banana Lip Butter on clearance for 75% off at my local CVS. (If you run out in the next few days, you might be able to find it, too.) I really like the flavor of this product – it isn’t subtle, so if you like a lighter flavor it may not be for you, but I feel, especially at 75% off the normal price, it is well worth a try!

Essence of Beauty Strawberry Banana Lip Butter comes in a small tub that is probably the diameter of a half-dollar or maybe a little bit bigger. The first thing I want to tell you, before you dig in zealously, excited to get a taste of this lip softening product, is that the lip butter is super soft and a little bit goes a long way. I made that mistake on my first application and needed a napkin for the bit of extra lip butter left over.

The color of the lip butter is a fantastic shade of pink that matches exactly what you would expect for strawberry banana. The taste is a sweet and fruity blend of both fruits that reminds you of the perfect, refreshing smoothie by the same flavor. The texture is a bit more of a gel than a balm, so be prepared to have your lips feel just a bit sticky from time to time.

As far as ingredients go, Essence of Beauty Strawberry Banana Lip Butter contains mineral oil, Shea butter, Beeswax, and Mango seed butter. It also contains Petrolatum (inconclusive), so I probably won’t use anymore in the next few months since I’m expecting, just to be on the safe side.

I think this product cost between $1 and $2 since it was deeply discounted at my local CVS. I did like that the tub has a foil seal so you can tell it’s never been opened or used by anyone until you open it. I believe the normal retail price for Essence of Beauty Strawberry Banana Lip Butter is about $4.

Easter Appetizers and Snacks to Make and Share

Easter appetizers and snacksWhat is Easter without a celebration? Of course, every family that celebrates Easter is one that knows how to treat candies, pastries, eggs, and other sweets. So for this occasion, if you’re bringing food for Easter Sunday, why not focus on Easter snacks and appetizers? Here are a few recipes and ideas.

Easter Cupcakes
This is a pretty simple thing to do and one which kids will enjoy making and eating. You can either bake the cupcakes yourself or buy them plain from a bakery. To make a basket, put a little icing on top and use jellybeans as mini Easter eggs. There are tons of candies that you can put in as well. Use a thin wicker rope or hemp for the handle and tie it with a ribbon. Another idea for this is to make Easter bunny cupcakes. Use a combination of marshmallows and round candies to make the bunny’s face. You can create tons of fancy things using cupcakes, icing, and candies, and all it takes is a little imagination.

Filled Easter Eggs
Here’s a healthier Easter appetizer. You can buy plastic eggs at craft stores or grocery stores. Fill them with crackers, peanuts, granola, pretzels, bread, dried fruit, and just about anything tiny that you can munch on. Upon sealing them, wrap a ribbon around the egg and decorate it. It’s a surprise that children would be eager to open.

Egg Salad
What’s Easter without the egg? Incorporate this novelty idea to your Easter appetizer recipes. You can use a variety of vegetables such as carrots, celery, and onions for more flavor aside from the traditional mayonnaise. Here is an egg salad recipe you can try.

Veggies, Fruits, and Dip
Vegetarians will have a ball with this Easter snack and appetizer. Slice up a few vegetables and fruits such as celery, carrots, apples, and pears. Place them neatly (and decoratively) on a dish alongside a variety of dips. You can offer Nutella, peanut butter, hummus, ranch dressing, almond butter, cream cheese, and honey. The options are endless!

Bagels and Cream Cheese
Make this classic favorite into a delectable Easter snack by adding a little color to the cream cheese. Use a small bowl to mix food dye into the cream cheese spread. Serve the spread in different colors and different containers just beside bagels that are cut into small pieces. Kids will enjoy combining colors and adults will revel at the fact that your cream cheese is so colorful.

Carrot Croquettes
If you have plenty of time to spare, consider preparing croquettes for your Easter appetizer. It’s a different take on the traditional croquette. Shape the croquette into tiny carrots and stick on pieces of parsley sprigs. Make them small and bite size so that they are appealing to kids. This recipe has carrots, so if you’re having a difficult time feeding your kids vegetables, you should try it.
